Introduction: Mapping Out a Plan for the Rest of My Life and Enjoying the Journey

My Golden Years are an extension of the life I have lived up to retirement which began on December 1, 2011. I have organized this blog to include the top ten relevant topics shown below in the right side column in General Topics. Just click on one and you will see all that I have written on that topic. Click on the Most Current tab for chronological order of all entries.

I have addressed each topic in no particular order other than what is currently on my mind on the day I am posting. I started each topic by describing where I was when I began this blog and then exploring the possibilities of progression and any goals that I would like to meet. After that, I write about the path to reach that goal as it happens. Sometimes I just write about what is happening now.

I welcome any comments and questions either on this blog or email as I travel these paths and hope to share my growth with interested persons who may find some common elements in their own path to the rest of their life. I hope to use my skills as an appraiser for nearly 30 years to continue to observe different perspectives on a subject and reconcile into a conclusion that is of value to me. Please join me whenever you like. Email notice of new posts is no longer available so just bookmark the address.

The Blog Archive tool is helpful to find posts by year. Of most importance to me is the confidence developed in my intuitive skills over the years and it is that part of my character I am trusting to define value in my life. I believe change can be good and I can be enriched by believing in my true self using my intuition. The analytical part of my life no longer has a financial grip and I can let go of what absolutely made sense at the time in favor of what feels right now. I have done a lot of work since this blog began in 2011 and I hope you will join me as I explore this approach in My Golden Years.

2025 Summer & Autumn Family Time

Summer always begins with my granddaughter and daughter's birthdays which are a week apart.  We gifted their family with a year membership at a waterpark called RUSH the previous Christmas and this was a great place for a party for many of granddaughter Kayleen's friends and their parents.

Sarah & Chris celebrating Sarah's birthday in Daytona Beach, Florida

Soonn after, daughter Sarah and her husband celebrated her birthday in Daytona Beach while I stayed at their house.  I took care of Kayleen and their two dogs, cat, and four bottle-fed calves in the backyard.  Kayleen and I enjoyed learning that there is a difference between shopping and buying at the Battlefield Mall while still having fun.  That included time at a place called Urban Air which is like a Ninja Warrior course.  We got plenty of exercise inside when it was very hot outside! Kayleen is a lot of fun to shop with which reminded me of the many times spent with her mother at the mall. Grandpa Keith drove down to Springfield to join us for church on Sunday and made it back home to Hermitage ahead of the storm that came early Sunday evening on June 29th.

Sadly, on this final day and night before Sarah and Chris were to come home from their vacation, a big storm came to south Springfield and did much damage.  It was scary as Kayleen and I were trapped inside the house without electricity and AC because of the large trees that came down.  We were grateful that friends of the family came several hours later to chainsaw the trees away from the doors and start the generator in the shed in the backyard.  They also helped me feed the calves.  Sarah and Chris drove a rental car home instead of taking their flight from Florida because all planes were grounded or delayed.  They made it back less than 24 hours after the storm hit.  It happened to be on their final night anyway; they drove all night!

Back yard storm damage the next morning after trees removed from doorways all around house; much damage!  37,000 customers intially affected from the June 29th storm with 2-3,000 still without electricity on July1st.

The rest of the summer went well with a 4th of July celebration at the Mills Ranch in Buffalo hosted by Sarah & Chris which included their neighbors and extended families.  Other events included many hours of play with a new wooden castle I purchased for Kayleen for a few dollars at a silent auction from our local Senior Center, a trip to Branson for Keith and I to see the live play "David" that he won tickets for from our Spring Master Gardener Workshop, baking cookies with Kayleen when she visits and bicycling in the neighborhood.

Then there was a week visit from Keith's cousins, Chuck and Kevin from Iowa, when they spent most of the time fishing.  I always bake an apple pie for them and cook any fish they catch; otherwise, they are mostly on their own.  I went to the Walnut Festival in Stockton by myself as I have hardly ever missed this event since we moved to Missouri in 1978.  Together we all went to a new festival that was held locally in Elkton.  It was called Puff & Stuff with lots of outdoor vendors and live music.  It wasn't well attended from what we could see but it was different with lots of interesting people.
