Introduction: Mapping Out a Plan for the Rest of My Life and Enjoying the Journey

My Golden Years are an extension of the life I have lived up to retirement which began on December 1, 2011. I have organized this blog to include the top ten relevant topics shown below in the right side column in General Topics. Just click on one and you will see all that I have written on that topic. Click on the Most Current tab for chronological order of all entries.

I have addressed each topic in no particular order other than what is currently on my mind on the day I am posting. I started each topic by describing where I was when I began this blog and then exploring the possibilities of progression and any goals that I would like to meet. After that, I write about the path to reach that goal as it happens. Sometimes I just write about what is happening now.

I welcome any comments and questions either on this blog or email as I travel these paths and hope to share my growth with interested persons who may find some common elements in their own path to the rest of their life. I hope to use my skills as an appraiser for nearly 30 years to continue to observe different perspectives on a subject and reconcile into a conclusion that is of value to me. Please join me whenever you like. Email notice of new posts is no longer available so just bookmark the address.

The Blog Archive tool is helpful to find posts by year. Of most importance to me is the confidence developed in my intuitive skills over the years and it is that part of my character I am trusting to define value in my life. I believe change can be good and I can be enriched by believing in my true self using my intuition. The analytical part of my life no longer has a financial grip and I can let go of what absolutely made sense at the time in favor of what feels right now. I have done a lot of work since this blog began in 2011 and I hope you will join me as I explore this approach in My Golden Years.

San Diego Vacation - Coronado Island

I am in my element...West Coast Style!
One week after my arrival in California, I'm in the water.   The ocean beckoned me and I came.  I am thankful that my son was able to spend all day Sunday with me and chose Breakers Beach at Coronado for the afternoon.  This is a special beach for military families only and was not at all crowded.  It was beautiful!  The weather was ideal with plenty of sunshine and low humidity with a gentle breeze.  Coronado is actually a peninsula but is called Coronado Island for some reason.

Most of the family that came for Saturday's wedding were leaving Sunday.  Beach time was a good way to unwind from all the excitement and reflect on all the beauty and sounds of nature.  What a wonderful time to find a balance again between nature and people!  I still had another whole week of vacation remaining.  Sunscreen was used but we learned that evening to check the expiration date before we go out next time as we carried the sunshine with us in the form of a sunburn for the next three days!
This is the view from our beach chairs.
This is the view all around us.

I knew I was in a special place when I looked down and saw GOLD SPARKLES in the sand!
This view of the Coronado Bridge is taken from the walkway next to the Hilton Hotel where I walked along the waterfront most days.

This view of San Diego shows the Hilton Hotel again on the right and the Bay with Coronado Island on the far left.

The next day, my son was back to work and I got an invitation from my middle brother, John, to join him and his wife, Corinne, for lunch at the historic Hotel Del Coronado.  As parents of the bride, they were taking some extra time after the wedding to enjoy the local sights and then heading north to visit familiar places.  My plans were in the local area for my remaining week.  It was good to spend a relaxed couple hours with them in these upscale surroundings although the lunch itself was nothing to write about.  The building was interesting as it is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian Beach Resort.  It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States built in 1888.  Also the landscaping was amazing!

The rest of the week, I was pretty much on my own.  My son and I had good mornings to visit before he went to work but was working late each evening with the employer bringing in dinners.  There were deadlines to meet!  So I had to get brave and venture out of my comfort zone of walking distance and having family members drive me where I wanted to go.  Time to taxi!  Balbao Park here I come!
